Most Unusual or Intriguing Request I've Fulfilled for a Customer

One of my clients wanted to visit the home country of his family which was Greece.  He knew the area where his family was originally from, but that was it. I researched the area, found a small hotel for them to stay, hired a driver, and a guide/translator for my clients.

They were from a little fishing village called Astakos and with the help of the interpreter they were able to trace their roots and actually met family members previously unknown to them. My client sent me a photo that showed him with his two sons and their guide along with their new found family in Greece. It was truly special for my clients and for me!

We had a wonderful time in Spain! I’ll send you guys a few pictures once we get a little settled.

Everything went as planned. We made a few tweaks (especially moving dinner reservations until later!) but they were small.

SpaintTop is really top notch. All the drivers were timely. The guides were super sharp in terms of knowledge of where we went. Thanks again for making our honeymoon a trip of a lifetime!!!

The trip was unbelievable! We LOVED Ngala and the One and Only. The transfers and everything worked out perfectly! The shark cage diving wasn't as scary as I thought it would be as I actually got in the water! Whole trip was amazing!

Let's connect in the new year! We have over 2,000 photos so everything will still be very fresh :)

Happy Holidays!

Cameron — Trip to South Africa

All is going well.

Keiko, our guide, is AMAZING and each day has gone above and beyond.

As a freelancer for A&K, Keiko excels in professionalism, courtesy, knowledge, patience and is ever so gracious with any requested slight change in our itinerary.

Looking forward to sharing more, but it is 1.30am Tokyo time now and with our depart time at 7.15am this morning for the 8.10am bullet train, I have to leave you now for a few hours of shut eye.

Warmest wishes,

Amy — Trip to Tokyo

Anna,

The Vancouver Christmas package for John was a HUGE hit!!!!!!! Thank you for helping make it so great!  The presentation in the folder was perfect and such a fun read!! He is super excited!

Thankful for you,

Melissa — Trip to Vancouver, Canada

Alhambra was amazing and Ignacio helped us with the ticket issue. We have had a great day! Eating now. Thanks for coordinating this one!

Geoffrey — Trip to Alhambra, CA

Hi Anna,

Happy New Year! Thank you for all your help in coordinating our trip to Rome. We accomplished everything we hoped to in 5, very busy days. The tour guides were all exceptional. Each guide was highly educated and very personable and we benefited greatly from their knowledge. I highly recommend all the tours we went on.

Some highlights:

It was so nice to skip the line at the Vatican. I had no idea it was so busy!

The pizza making class was great and the owner had been a chef at an Ohio restaurant for about 5 years so we had a lot of fun talking to him.

Our Pompeii tour guide was outstanding. He was a third generation tour guide and he was able to lead us around and avoid the big crowds.

I am glad we made the effort to go to Florence. The train station was easy to navigate and there were train employees walking around to help you buy your tickets. The entire trip was about 7 hours (3 hours back and forth on the train) so it is definitely doable if you have a free afternoon. The weather was lousy but it's so beautiful, especially at night.

The Amalfi coast was stunning and would make a great trip on its own.

The airline travel was on-time, customs was very smooth and we were fed a lot on the way back!

So many great memories for all of us.

Thanks,

Erin — Trip to Rome, Italy

I returned this week from my first Abercrombie & Kent trip to Japan with my two college-age daughters and wanted to share some thoughts from the experience.

First and foremost, if it were not for the hands-on attention to detail, business acumen and keen concern for my family's happiness on this A&K trip by Travel Link's Anna B, this trip would never have been as successful as it was.

Second, if it were not for the professionalism, graciousness and great country education by A&K tour guide Keiko, this trip would not have exceeded the on-site expectations as it did.

Third, each hotel I requested and A&K secured for the trip -- The Peninsula Tokyo and Four Seasons Kyoto, exhibited staff expertise and high standards they are renowned for which culminated in terrific visits at each property.

Travel via air and ground were turn-key and well planned via Travel Link's Cindie P for air and A&K's selected white-gloved skilled drivers in Tokyo and Kyoto.

The final itinerary from A&K's standard tour recommendations combined with a multitude of suggestions from my detailed research, provided exciting, fun and culinary delicious days.

Overall, our first A&K trip provided a lifetime of wonderful memories plus, provided a fabulous first time experience working with Travel Link and Anna Bright.

Thank you,

Amy A — Trip to Japan

Hi Anna,

Trip was unbelievable! We LOVED Ngala and the One and Only. The 12 Apostles was very nice as well but felt a bit tired and the service wasn't as good as the One and Only. The transfers and everything worked out perfectly! The shark cage diving wasn't as scary as I thought it would be as I actually got in the water! Whole trip was amazing!

We are having a wonderful trip!! We love our guide Simon. Harry Potter was great and we rode the London eye today. We even did the wax museum and the boys loved it. We did Abbey Road. Gregory loved the soccer game. They loved going on the tube. Tomorrow off to Liverpool. Thanks again so much.

Gail — Trip to England

I just finished reviewing the documents and all I can say is WOW! Great, thank you for the time and attention you put into this. I very much appreciate your efforts. Thanks for the additional materials-the maps, restaurant recommendations, etc. I think everything is very clear.

Gerald — Trip to Europe

A belated thank you for helping to organize our Anguilla experience. Everything went flawlessly and effortlessly. Cap Juluca is a wonderful resort -- just our style and pace......and all the restaurants we went to provided great fun and better food! We loved the island overall -- much on offer, but unassuming and understated unlike many of their neighbors at that time of the year.

Every best wish for a happy and healthy 2016.
Now, where this year..........?!

Ian — Trip to Caribbean

Jill — Trip to California

We had a great weekend [in New Orleans]! The historical haunted tour was excellent through Greyline with Stacy as our tour guide. She was most impressive! The guys' experience with the behind the scene WWII museum was outstanding. We also took an air boat swamp tour that was fun and unique. We were very lucky regarding the weather considering the time of year we chose to make this trip. Thank you for your help!!! Take care!

Leisa — Trip to New Orleans

We made it back! No, place like home! Overall, we had an absolute ball!
First class was AMAZING!!!!!
Cascais was so charming, the weather fantastic, and reuniting with sisters the best! We did receive our luggage and they upgraded our room to a suite! Off to a fantastic start! Thank you
Lisbon was wonderful, hotel rooftop terrace bar fantastic, and bed was comfy! They had a champagne treat waiting for us in our room-thanks to you! Lastly, what a memorable night watching Portugal win the Euro cup with the locals!
Madrid was hot, hotel in a wonderful location for walking, and beer was cheaper than water! So, naturally we drank beer?! Our favorite was the wine tour just north of the city! Felt just like Napa. Lastly, a bottle of champagne was waiting in our room-thanks to you!
Barcelona was our favorite with Cascais being a close second! The hotel felt like we were in Vegas but on Mediterranean! The pool setting and view were incredible! The 1/2 day tour was just enough and hot air balloon ride was unbelievable! It was nice to have down time in this city so we could relax by the pool GREAT way to end the trip! Lastly, on our last day a bottle of champagne and chocolates were waiting for us in our room! It never got old! The Sangria and Cava were incredible in town!

Hi Anna,
Thanks for finding a way for us to enjoy the Adlon Kapinski. It is a perfectly lovely spot. You were very thorough and had given us all the info as usual. You have done a phenomenal job on all the details. You've been wonderful and we look forward to working with you again. Thanks again.

Niel — Trip to Berlin

Hi...We just want to tell you what a pleasure it is working with you all.Linda, when you said several years ago that you could add so much to whatever trip we were contemplating I now know that you were talking about Anna. I am going to embarrass you, Anna, talking about you in front of you, but I want you both to know what a pleasure and a help it has been to have you 'with us' on these trips. Your professionalism and attention to detail has been amazing and you gave us every tool and voucher we needed in every circumstance to make us confident that we had all the information we needed in every city and on every transfer. Thank you so much and I am in awe that you do this for many many people all at the same time. You are a true professional and we look forward to planning many trips with you in the future. Lucky us.I have attached the letter to Viking and I know you will forward it to wherever it should go. We believe strongly in complimenting all good things and suggesting improvements where appropriate. I am also planning to go on Cruise Critic and post positive things there. Again thank you for all the wonderful things you do...

Niel — Trip on Viking River Cruise

What a great week we had in Cancun! More than enough activities for everyone in the family. Delicious food. We loved that we were staying a newer building that was further away from the crowds. (T I think David did every water activity that was available. The family-friendly all-inclusive resort is really perfect for where we are in our lives right now. Already looking forward to planning our February 2017 vacation.

I wanted to send a long overdue note expressing my family’s gratitude for Anna. Anna organized the perfect Spring Break trip to Ireland for my family.  She patiently worked with me as we planned the details for an ideal Irish getaway.  Anna has such a warm personality, that I looked forward to my conversations with her.  Then a week before our departure date, I had a freak accident.  I slipped in my kitchen and suffered a severe head trauma, so we had to cancel our trip.

The first couple of weeks after I fell were a blur because of the concussion.  My sister-in-law, Kim F., who was joining us on the trip, immediately contacted Anna with the disappointing news.  Kim said Anna couldn’t have been nicer about it, which did not surprise me.  We had  several hotel rooms and had multiple tours booked, so it involved a lot of extra work.  Once my neurologist wrote the required letter, Anna managed to postpone our trip to June 9th with a minimal charge.  She worked a miracle, since I didn’t purchase trip insurance.

I’m sure you already know how valuable Anna is to your team, but I wanted this opportunity to sing a chorus of praise.  She saved our trip, and brought peace to a stressful situation.  We are forever grateful.

Dear Ms. Raymer,

I wanted to send a long overdue note expressing my family’s gratitude for Anna Bright.

My sister-in-law, Kim Fernstrom, who was joining us on the trip, immediately contacted Anna with the disappointing news.

I would’ve sent this email much sooner, but I haven’t been using the computer/TV etc. during my recovery.  I’m sure you already know how valuable Anna is to your team, but I wanted this opportunity to sing a chorus of praise.  She saved our trip, and brought peace to a stressful situation.  We are forever grateful.

Dear Anna,

Thank you for checking in. From my not-a-luxury-traveler perspective the trip was spectacular. Lots of “WOW” factor!

As Tyri mentioned, there were some missteps early on, but it was obvious the Departures and Peninsula folks recognized the food and logistical foul-ups and did their best to make amends as the trip progressed. That said, I enjoyed every moment, and was very impressed at the level of personal service and commitment from the Peninsula and Departures staff.

I also want to add how impressed I have been with YOUR commitment to making sure our trip was completely enjoyable. Tyri talked YOU up throughout our adventures.

Many thanks for all your attention to detail.

Suzie —

So. Fabulous!! Thanks for putting up with all my fears and concerns about this incredible adventure!  The Mala Mala camp is so fabulous !!  Newly redone (huge!) rooms AND we saw an elephant on our way in!

You have done an amazing job!!

Thank you so much!!

Darleen — Trip to South Africa

Hi Anna!

I’m trying to balance jet leg, re-entry and wanting to stay in the glow of the most wonderful travel experience of our lives. Even my husband is clinging to the great memories of our trip. We’ve been so lucky to travel extensively over our lives together (and separately) for many years but we cannot compare the experiences of this trip with any trip in our past.

First of all:  thanks to you, A&K and American Express Travel for making it very difficult for us to cancel!  Sadly several people did cancel, apparently.  You know I was on the edge of doing just that and disappointed I couldn't accomplish the cancellation but I'll be eternally grateful we did not cancel and was able to enjoy every moment of our experience.

Thanks for your excellent recommendations. We weren't sure if we really wanted to relocate to a fourth hotel in the wine country but La Residence was absolutely the most fantastic hotel experience of our lives.  It was hard to leave the hotel every day!  In fact we had dinner there every night and changed some of our dinner reservations to lunch which was wonderful.  You kept saying: "you'll understand when you get there..." and that was so true.

Had a nice time in Cape Town, enjoyed seeing our friends and Jerry had a great golfing opportunity, in hindsight though, we both thought it would be the highlight of our trip but was not.  The hotel was lovely!!  Chris, our tour guide was fab, taking us to many fantastic places....the history there is unbelievable. But the area felt a bit "touristy" and we were constantly warned about the crime in the city which was disconcerting. But we're glad we stayed there, one less day would have been optimum.

The Royal Livingston was gorgeous as was seeing Victoria Falls. Mala Mala was phenomenal .. Experience of a life time. Every stop had it's own highlight. The four stops were wonderfully balanced.  Livingston to recoup from long flight; Mala Mala when we were rested and ready for an adventure; Cape Town offered a touch of city life after being in the wilds and finally the wine country.  La Residence was a soothing, beautiful, gracious and elegant send off. I'm sending a few photos via my cellphone. Think I have over 400 pictures and my husband probably has close to that many as well.

Oh, I neglected to mention what an incredible job A&K did throughout our entire trip. Even though I didn't book our flight with them, they (particularly Rouhet) did an incredible job tracking down and delivering my mia bag that British Air left behind in London.

Every step of the way they were there to assist us...most awesome experience was the two representatives that met us at Cape Town airport, got us through security ahead of a long line then waited over two hours at the airport until we were actually seated on the plane!

We've already spread the word to our friends and family about the awesome job you and A&K did!!

Realize I keep using the same adjectives in describing our experience....brain not fully recouped yet but I didn't want to wait any longer to thank you and tell you a very little bit about our experience.

Again Anna, thank you!

Darlene — Trip to Abercrombie & Kent

Hi Anna,

We had a GREAT time in Ireland. All the accommodations were over the top and enjoyed every moment.Trump Doonbeg was unbelievable and the best of the best from our room, a 3 bedroom suite with 3 1/2 baths living room and full kitchen to the golf, what a great course even though we did loose some balls. Our driver, Gerard, was the best and made the time fly by. So informative on the tours and local knowledge, best decision made to get a driver. I would have had a hard time navigating the roads. By the end of the week we were like family. Cliffs of Moher, Ring of Kerry were beautiful lots of pictures and the weather was clear. Dublin was everything expected pubs, pubs, and pubs liked them all. Almost saw the Pope while there but we had an event at Guinness. The Jameson tasting well worth it.

Thanks for all your help on putting this vacation together for us. We'll have these memories for the rest of our lives.

Can't wait to go back.
